according to the bmpx website, 0.12.9 will be the last official release for a while, while they work on "Phase 3" [1]. For the previous version, (0.12.8), renaming the current portage (0.12.6.1) ebuild resulted in a successful build, but it does not for this version. I'm hoping it can be fixed in the ebuild. given that it fails during linking, i think it probably can, but it is not an error i am familiar with.
