Description Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-30 10:38:20 UTC
The end of the alsa-lib emerge spits out the following:

 * Please use media-sound/alsa-driver rather than in-kernel drivers as there
 * have been some problems recently with the in-kernel drivers. See bug #87544.

This is in contradiction to the ALSA guide. Perhaps it should instead say
something about trying alsa-driver if the in-kernel driver fails, instead?
Comment 1 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-30 10:52:59 UTC
Having rc1 in 2.6.14 does not really help me trusting in-kernel drivers,
that's why I still prefer not changing that.

About the contradiction I already expressed myself, more than one time.

*sigh*

OK, but genkernel has ALSA drivers enabled by default. The ALSA guide uses the
in-kernel drivers by default. If you are not confident in them, then you should
be filing bugs to have them changed. As the maintainer of these, it really is
up to you (well, the entire herd) on what to do with them. However, we *cannot*
have this level of inconsistency in Gentoo. It makes us all look bad.
