Description Mike Russo 2005-11-30 07:13:42 UTC
I was able to successfully build and install the firefox-1.5_rc1-r1 ebuild.
However when trying to emerge the firefox-1.5 release ebuild I get the following
error messages from g++:

!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

I tried to emerge once and then did another emerge --sync and emerge firefox
again, but received the same error.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. add firefox to /etc/portage/package.keywords
2. emerge firefox
3.

Actual Results:
did not emerge

Expected Results:
built correctly -- no issue with 1.5_rc1-r1 (using it right now)

Spanky what version of binutils are you using exactly, you have so many
installed. Also if you would set 2.16.1 and try again.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-12-01 07:29:14 UTC
i use 2.16.1 most of the time (and is what i am hitting this bug with)
Comment 5 Andy Lutomirski 2005-12-01 14:29:56 UTC
I have the same problem. I don't know whether it matters, but I have
gcc-4.0.2-r2 installed (but not selected with gcc-config). For fun, I'm
retrying the build using gcc-4.0.2-r2. I don't expect I different result, though...

USE flags are: -debug +gnome +ipv6 +java +mozdevelop +mozsvg -xinerama -xprint

Comment 6 Jory A. Pratt 2005-12-01 14:37:38 UTC
It is not compiler related. It is some wierdness I have not yet figured out. A
second emerge seems to fix it tho, so making it tough to figure out exact problem.
Comment 7 Andy Lutomirski 2005-12-01 17:54:22 UTC
Hmm... Then I guess the fact that it built fine when I retried it with gcc4
isn't news.

Oddly, this build seems convinced that it's Deer Park Alpha 2 (although About
says "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051201
Firefox/1.5), so it appears to be the right version.

just synced up and it works now for me

I had no problems with 1.5 (been using the masked beta pkgs as well) but have
since tried emerging 1.5-r2 and encountered this error.

Just for an info:
I had exactly the same problem but now - with www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5
(not rc1) on x86.
Without any syncing - the second "emerge mozilla-firefox" succeeded.
The first-time error was _exactly_ as in the #1 post.

Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-12-10 06:44:28 UTC
yeah, issue is back for me with mozilla-firefox-1.5-r2

mozilla-firefox-1.5-r1 worked though

latest sync -> mozilla-firefox-1.5-r2 emerged
Comment 16 Anode 2005-12-14 17:01:18 UTC
I just had the same but now - with mozilla-firefox-1.5-r2 :(
And as in the first time with mozilla-firefox-1.5 - the second compilation
attempt succeeded.

hmm, and now 1.5-r2 failed on me ... guess it's magic in the air ;)
Comment 20 allan franta 2005-12-20 16:35:17 UTC
After I installed new hard drive and had to remerge everything I received same error message. I had set MAKEOPTS="-j2" on the new install; I had a backup of my old /etc folder and checked that, and didn't have MAKEOPTS set at all. Commented out that line, and mozilla-firefox-1.5-r3 installed.

I am having the same problem now with mozilla-firefox-1.5-r4. -r3 was fine, as were previous versions, although they all claim to be Deer Park Alpha's. Re-emerging again doesn't seem to work this time.

for everyone that is having this flux set makeopts="-j1" and test I do not want to have to force it in the tree until I am sure it is an issue. Also this is far from always reproducable I have yet been able to duplicate the error.
Comment 24 Andy Neitzke 2006-01-01 15:50:21 UTC
MAKEOPTS="-j1" fixed it for me.
Comment 25 Andy Dustman 2006-01-03 18:32:15 UTC
I can also confirm that the build error happened for me too and that MAKEOPTS="-j1" fixed it.
Comment 26 Michal Suchanek 2006-01-11 06:19:13 UTC
I got the error with 1.5-r9 on x86 but it is not reproducible.
Comment 27 Martin Wegner 2006-01-12 13:01:41 UTC
I can confirm that MAKEOPTS="-j1" solved it for me, too.
Comment 28 Christoph Bussenius 2006-01-14 16:12:46 UTC
I found out that the cause of the problem is that the "expat" module has to be built before the "htmlbrowser" module, which is not always the case with -j2. I don't know how to fix this "the right way", but this patch does the job:

well, I tried once again, doing notning except emerge --sync and this time almost everyting went fine (last time: see bug 119530).
Only errors were:
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 648: regchrome: command not found
E: regchrome exited with status: 127
E: //usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/extensions/installed-extensions.txt still present
E: Registration might have gone wrong

but ff got compiled successfully.

Ignore the regchrome you are only seeing it due to firefox-1.0.x being uninstalled.

Alright the next version is in my overlay I am gonna get it added to the tree tomorrow with a p.mask. It is gonna need testing, I do not suggest ya test if your worried about any breakage right now as you will need to unmask nss/nspr as well. What is in the overlay is not what will end up in tree for officially, nss/nspr deps are gonna be placed in ebuild along with option to build against nss/nspr mozcoreconf will remove --without-system-nspr as well and it will be moved into -r9 for firefox and 1.5 thunderbird.
Comment 34 Jory A. Pratt 2006-02-05 05:06:46 UTC
Fixed in -r11 and 1.5.0.1 We will be moving to 1.5.0.1 in the next few days as it contains all the security fixes, so look for stable rather fast.
