When booting from the 2005.1-r2 install cd with kernel parameter acpi=off (see bug # 113090), the 8139cp module is loaded for my RTL8139+ based Sweex PCMCIA LAN card . It should load the 8139too module. Full dmesg and lspci -vv attached. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot from 2005.1-r1 with kernel parameter acpi=off on a Thinkpad 380Z 2. 3. Actual Results: It loads the 8139cp kernel module for the network card. Expected Results: Load the 8139too module instead.

Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what we should do here to resolve this, as it is hotplug/coldplug doing that module loading and not anything we've done. We could blacklist the 8139cp driver, but then we would end up with users that require that driver not getting their network up and running automatically, and they'd just file a bug, so we'd be trading one bug for another. Hrrrmn...

OK. Does anyone know if the 8139too driver supports everything the 8139cp driver does?
Does this still happen with newer releases?
Well, it's been a long time with no response. I don't have this card, so I cannot check this myself. As such, marking as NEEDINFO.
