Hi; The latest ntp ebuild installs an /etc/ntp.conf which specifies /var/state/ntp.drift as the driftfile, but doesnt install this directory or file. (/var/state isnt even part of baselayout) I dont know if ntpd will create this file if the dir exists, or not. (so far it hasnt) /var/run looks like a good place; we already keep state for other things there (eg. random-seed ) Also, the test in /etc/init.d/ntpd for the existance of /etc/ntp.conf might be more helpful if it wasnt installed by default-- perhaps an example file could be installed and the user informed, so they are forced to edit it. I dont know; Im not sure gentoo has a consistant policy here. Thanks for your efforts; Paul
