Description Paul Thompson 2002-11-28 17:17:28 UTC
Hi;
The latest ntp ebuild installs an /etc/ntp.conf which specifies
/var/state/ntp.drift as the driftfile, but doesnt install this
directory or file. (/var/state isnt even part of baselayout)
I dont know if ntpd will create this file if the dir exists, or not.
(so far it hasnt) /var/run looks like a good place; we already
keep state for other things there (eg. random-seed )
Also, the test in /etc/init.d/ntpd for the existance of /etc/ntp.conf
might be more helpful if it wasnt installed by default-- perhaps
an example file could be installed and the user informed, so
they are forced to edit it. I dont know; Im not sure gentoo
has a consistant policy here.
Thanks for your efforts;
Paul
