Afaic, eselect is going to be the official way to manage and update a gentoo box. Since it seems to target update of symlink to kernel source as well, i guess that should be mentioned in the kernel upgrade guide. This could be the revamped "updating /usr/src/linux symbolic link" section: 1) symlink use flag 2) eselect kernel list|set|show 3) manually
Sounds good. Anyone want to take care of this? I haven't yet played with eselect and am low on time at the moment.

It is *not marked stable* on *any* arches. Besides, how hard is it to run "ln -sfn kernel-sources linux"? I recommend that this *not* be implemented for the time being.
Not until eselect is marked stable for all arches, and is in a *stable working condition*. This is an intriguing suggestion, though. Thanks for sharing, and come back with it in the future once lots of progress has been made on eselect for all arches.
eselect is stable on all our officially supported architectures for a while now...
I'll fix this one
I've added a small segment on using eselect to change the symlink. Thanks for reporting.
