This application seems to be unmaintained nowadays which would mean I wouldn't want to make an ebuild for it. I've contacted upstream to ask about its current status. 

Is there still interest in this?

I am still using it, however I don't possess any expertise in kde, and the applet doesn't show any partitions on my system anymore.

The last version is 0.15, which suggests the project is no longer being developed.
If there is an alternative, I would love to try it.

hmm. not quite, just something to display free space, update as it changes, and have it be somewhat out of the way. diskfree seems perfect, but my new problem is that no partitions show up anymore.

I'm halfway considering picking up development, but I don't know anything about working with applications of even this magnitude. (My skill has only been as extensive as schooling.)

Since this thing is only for 3.4 that no longer is even in main tree closing as wontfix.
