I've been trying to get hibernate (3.0_rc1 and 3.0.5) to compile cleanly from sources using the portage provided packages for a week now. And I'm almost able to submit an ebuild ...but not quite. In the meantime - since activity on the Hibernate ebuilds is so low and since Hibernate is such a wonderful piece of software - I'd like to see something like this ebuild in portage. I know binary packages in portage are frowned upon, but I think it's still better than users having to download their binaries themselves and clutter up their filesystems *that* way. This is my first attempt at an ebuild, so please be kind =) I've also added an ant build.properties file that disables the annoying splash shown while running the build.xml script. Magnus

http://gentoo-wiki.com/FAQ_Why_Build_Java_Code_From_Source We are not going to add binary packages to the tree. File a bug about the issues you have with hibernate if one does not already exist. We do have a couple of binary packages in the tree but that is either because it is closed source or for example cyclic dependencies. There should be bugs for converting binary packages to compile from sources for packages that still need to be converted. If there aren't, feel free to file new ones.
