This driver is only 3 days old upstream.

Also, eselect is not stable. My vote is a definite and resounding *no* on this.
Comment 2 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2005-11-14 11:15:31 UTC
the current stable is less likely to work with linux 2.6.14 ,I tried to backport
the patches but I can't say I did a perfect job since lack of time / boxes to
test. I'd rather have relatively untested package (many ati betatester are using
gentoo and are reporting issues that way) than a surely broken one.
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-14 11:25:46 UTC
So you would rather us just stabilize ati-drivers and drop the eselect-opengl
requirement for now? Because otherwise, there's not really a chance of this
going stable as long as eselect isn't even stable.

What does betatesters have to do with stable? I agree that if you have a stable
version it should work with the current stable kernel sources. Is there an issue
already found with the current stable and 2.6.14? Maybe we could wait until
something is reported.

Something in this version 8.19.10 is crashing X Winsdows when I run two monitors
- CRT and TV-out (component video). Linux versions tried are 2.6.14-gentoo-r2
and 2.6.14.2. It reports:

Caught Signal 8. Server aborting

This does not happen with 8.18.8 and my xorg.conf file. Commenting out the
component video monitor allows X Windows to run on the CRT.

This driver does not seem stable to me.
Comment 6 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2005-11-15 11:46:28 UTC
could you please open a separate bug so I can send it to upstream?

(changing the request seconding the report)
Comment 7 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-15 11:59:23 UTC
Well, we cannot mark this stable without a stable eselect and the eselect
developers don't deem it ready for stable yet. Please feel free to REOPEN once
eselect goes stable.
