As of ati-drivers 8.16.x there seems to be a problem causing the detection of display dimensions (-> dpi) to fail for some configurations (e.g. on my hp compaq nc8000 w/ ati at 1400x1050). As a result some of the fonts shown are much to big, e.g. at gdm login screen. There is no problem with 1024x768 or with ati-drivers <8.16.x. However, the problem still exists with the current 8.19.10. It does not seem to be a gentoo-only problem, as I found the bug at the ati linux drivers bugzilla as bug no. 192: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=192 The following workaround "solves" the problem (for me): Add the line: Option "ForceMonitors" "tv" to the fglrx Device-Section of xorg.conf, no matter what kind of monitor you use. It seems to remedy (or hide) some internal bug(s). I guess it is up to ATI to fix that issue. (and btw. I really hope they are implementing composite ext. w/ 3D soon ;-) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. configure your ati display at 1400x1050 and use ati-drivers >8.16.x 2. 3.
Please, test with 8.27.10-r1 and newer versions and reopen if you still have issues. Thanks.
