Description Mr. Oizo 2002-03-13 11:18:09 UTC
when i do a (NVdriver not in lsmod list)

-"depmod"

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/video/NVdriver

-"modprobe NVdriver"
Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver will
taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA

(but it gets in the lsmod list)

-"insmod NVdriver"
Using /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver
Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver will
taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA

(also gets in the lsmod list)

when i then try to start X it says:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

(i know, i should submit the whole log, but only these are the errors)

i use the nvidia module, glx and dga enabled, but even disabled it won't
work

tell me if i have to submit my .config; XF86Config or/and XFree86.0.log file

Did you recently build a 2.4.18 kernel?

If so, did you re-build the nvidia-* packages *after* building and booting your
new kernel?

I think it's best to ask this on our mailing lists since this technically isn't
a confirmed bug nor an enhancement request. You'll get better assistance there.
