Comment 6 SAngeli 2005-11-09 14:19:53 UTC
Hi,

sorry for bugging but to this case "bug" I have:
Error - KDesktop
The KDE mediamanager is not running

When I run revdep-rebuild I get hal and ivman that are in this broken list.
So, I would like to kindly ask if you can come up with a solution to my current
bug problem, so that I can resume my revdep-rebuild.

Also, as for KDE mediamanager not running I do not know if it is a bug or just a
screw up package installation (it all started after I emerge -uD world) but what
do you advice me to do? I also have a gentoo forum openend but I won't post it
here as I have been told not to post links.

Please let me know as soon as you could.
I appreciate your help,
Spiro

Err - to correct my posted USE flags, dts was also present in USE when error
occured. Removed to drop libdts as a dep for now.

That error sounds like a problem with libtool, can you try re-emerging it?

> That error sounds like a problem with libtool, can you try re-emerging it?

Good call. In my case, re-merging libtool seems to resolve the issue.

Thanks.

Comment 12 moesasji 2005-12-07 09:18:47 UTC
I encounter exactly the same bug on ~x86 during the update to the GCC 3.4.4
compiler, so it appears to be not only for AMD64. The error-message as well as
the content of cat /var/tmp/portage/libdts-0.0.2-r3/temp/autoconf-****.out is
the same as in the first post.

I've tried to emerge libtool again before trying a re-emerge. That is not the
solution. Note that the one it this thread that does not have troubles uses GCC
4.0 as a compiler.

For completeness: my emerge info

I'm running out of ideas, moving to toolchain that might know something more.
Comment 15 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-12-18 13:52:12 UTC
toolchain doesnt maintain autotools
Comment 16 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-18 14:05:48 UTC
Sorry I don't know why I was sure it was tc.. it's libtool the problem tho.
And Mike, it's always you ;)
Comment 17 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-12-18 19:27:29 UTC
not really ... looks more like your fancy autotools eclass is doing something wrong

notice from the output that it fails to run libtoolize before autoconf
Comment 18 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-19 00:12:28 UTC
You're welcome to take a look to autotools eclass, I can't find anything wrong there, and I cannot reproduce the bug in any way...
IMHO the problem is still with libtool.

I had the same exact problem with libdts-0.0.2-r3 on my AMD64 system. However I found a temporary solution:

$ export ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" && emerge libdts

This compiled libdts-0.0.2-r3 successfully and there was no error running autoconf. Why -- I do not know, but it worked. No other changes were made. The same exact package (0.0.2-r3) does not compile unless you export the ~amd64 keyword.

Sorry, I suppose this would be helpful as well:

This solution worked for me on my x86 system (except I added media-libs/libdts to my package.use instead)

Very strange.
Comment 22 Triffid Hunter 2006-02-02 23:14:54 UTC
sounds similar to bug 117091, except listing in package.keywords doesn't fix that one as it does for this one
Comment 23 Andre Hinrichs 2006-02-27 13:39:00 UTC
I now had the exact same error here. Interestingly, running it a second time it
completed without an error. I retried it several times to get the error back...
The difference is, that the error happens only, if the system forgets to run
libtoolize. Don't know why...
This may be a hint to the ebuild developer. Here are the two cases:

Okay, please test now after a sync (one hour since this message, or something about that), the missing libtoolize might have been caused by the tracing being ran with autoconf 2.1 (that does not support tracing), I'm forcing 2.5 on the tracing, as that works for both 2.1 and 2.5.

Please try and tell me if you can reproduce the problem still.
Comment 25 Travis Morgan 2006-03-26 15:11:21 UTC
re-emerging libtool fixed on my system as well and this is a first build system.. never had kde or anything on it before so i don't know why re-emerging libtool would have made a difference.
Comment 26 Jeffrey Gardner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-28 10:45:30 UTC
Odd behavior indeed...
libdts died here with the same error in /var/tmp/portage/libdts-0.0.2-r3/temp/autoconf-3122.out :

configure.ac:80: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_LIBTOOL_WIN32_DLL
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
      See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.ac:81: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_PROG_LIBTOOL

However, I restarted the emerge and it worked fine the second time....
Comment 27 Leonard Khoo 2006-04-01 12:37:44 UTC
Reproduced. This was during a emerge -e world, a reboot and emerge --resume solved the problem.

Me as well.

It's occurred twice during three attempts at "emerge -e world" - I think it was a slightly newer glibc that prompted me to do that in the first place.

It's also occurred when I Ctrl-C'd from an appartently healthy "emerge libdts" and then said "emerge --resume".

Here's the failure output:

OK, one "emerge libtool && reboot" later, and the problem's still here.

I've found a way of always reproducing it.

emerge libdts # Hit Ctrl-C as soon as you see the compiling output
emerge --resume

Sure enough, as Andre Hinrichs pointed out earlier, the ebuild only fails when libtoolize isn't run.

Maybe a fix would be to edit the ebuild to ensure it always runs?

Meant to throw this in too, whoops. The failed emerge tells me to attach /var/tmp/portage/libdts-0.0.2-r3/temp/aclocal-3665.out , well here is all that as in that file (and I didn't see this elsewhere on this bug):

Bogus AT_M4DIR variable in ebuild

This fixes the compile for the case of "m4" dir not found.

I attempted this, but perhaps I've done it wrong.

went to /usr/portage/media-libs, backed up the libdts-0.0.2-r3.ebuild patch and did this:

patch -p1 < m4-baddness.patch

it asked for a filename, I gave it libdts-0.0.2-r3.ebuild.

after emerge, I got:

When you change an ebuild you have to recreate the checksums with:

ebuild <ebuild-filename> digest

ahhh, thanks...I didn't know what to do with it so I just googled it and only the patch -p1 line was there.

The m4 problem is fixed now, the other problem is probably unrelated.
Comment 39 Mauricio L. Pilla (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-01 05:59:10 UTC
Same problem with x86, and the patched version of the ebuild hasn't hit the tree yet. The fix seems to work though.
Comment 40 David Philippi 2006-06-09 06:05:57 UTC
For me it worked with the patch from comment 34 but I also had to remove the visibility patch since that one was producing errors. (I'm using ~AMD64 here.)

I was getting this problem on x86, during an emerge -e world. I fixed it by running emerge -pv libdts in another terminal, then running emerge --resume, and it resumed flawlessly. Seemed like maybe emerge -pv libdts created a file that it wanted, that emerge --resume wasn'td oing.
