Description Radek Podgorny 2005-11-03 01:55:02 UTC
Now that fuse has been accepted into mainline kernel, we no longer should depend
on sys-fs/fuse but something more general (virtual/kernel or something). It's
just like the alsa-driver case...
Comment 1 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 05:05:14 UTC
Well, we depend on alsa-lib instead of alsa-dirver, but in the fuse case, fuse
contains the userspace libraries necessary to mount fuse filesystems and thus we
should depend on fuse.
Comment 2 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-26 03:03:55 UTC

Comment 3 Mike Baikov 2006-01-26 03:16:18 UTC
sshfs-fuse depend from sys-fs/fuse, but my kernel 2.6.15 support it. How to emerge ssfs-fuse w/o sys-fs/fuse?
Comment 4 Mike Baikov 2006-01-26 03:24:51 UTC
libfuse depends :(

Ok, then i should remove from /lib/modules/.../fs/fuse.ko after install sys-fs/fuse?
Comment 5 Radek Podgorny 2006-01-26 03:58:13 UTC
Does it really get installed when you already have the support in kernel? I also use the in-kernel fuse module and sys-fs/fuse detects it and installs inly the library...
Comment 6 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-26 04:04:13 UTC
That functionality was broken for a while, it was always building the module regardless of whether it was present in-kernel. That is fixed again now.
Comment 7 Mike Baikov 2006-01-26 04:35:31 UTC
Yes, module compiled in kernel, but fuse-2.4.1-r1 has been try compile module. :(

On my servers (w/o module support) more poor, fuse wasn't compile (error about missed module support). I'm fix it (--disable-kernel-module or something in ebuild).
Comment 8 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-26 05:15:35 UTC
Please run "emerge --sync" and then attach full output from a session of "emerge fuse" where the FUSE module is already present on the system (i.e. it is provided by the kernel).

Ah, you need to use 2.4.2 or higher for the build-on-demand stuff.

(In future, please use the attachment feature for large pastes)
Comment 11 Mike Baikov 2006-01-26 07:46:11 UTC
Is possible, to stablezing 2.4.2 in portage tree?
Comment 12 Mike Baikov 2006-01-27 02:34:51 UTC
