Comment 1 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-26 09:21:54 UTC
Why are you using such an outdated gcc? Also: I assume you are sure, that your
hd didn't fill up, right?
Comment 2 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-28 05:17:13 UTC
After upgrading gcc to latest version available in portage I still get the same
error. And yes, I am sure I have enough HDD space (more then 5gb).

Any ideas?
Comment 3 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-29 00:32:50 UTC
Not really, as no on else seems to get this. Does it really fail again at the
exact same location? Could it be a hardware problem (cpu overheating or such)?

One thing you could try is exchange march=prescott with the more generic
march=pentium4 and see if that helps
Comment 4 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-30 06:00:10 UTC
ok, so I now tried it with "march=pentium4", but I still get the same error at
the same point during compilation. I do not think it's a hardware issue, because
I a) bought this hardware some weeks ago, and b) used it to compile KDE and xorg
w/o any problem...

ok, so what can I do now?
Comment 5 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-31 02:12:16 UTC
Could you try to remerge (if installed) bison and yacc. It seems that code that
either one of them creates (not clear which one) is broken in some way.
Comment 6 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-01 10:33:52 UTC
ok, upgraded bison and yacc to lateste stable version in portage, but I still
get the same error at the same point during OOorg compilation :(

any ideas left?
Comment 7 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-01 14:05:40 UTC
I ask myself if this is another duplicate of bug #110426 , might be just a
coincidence, but three people failing quite early in the build with quite
similar (though slightly different) bugs and all on gcc 3.3.6 seems suspicious.
But as there are some reports of people in the forums, that sucessfully built
with gcc 3.3.x it doesn't seem to be a common problem... I've to admit that I'm
a little bit out of ideas here atm.
Comment 8 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-01 14:27:20 UTC
Hmm... I have too less knowledge of these gcc problems, so I am afraid I have no
idea here. But if you are out of ideas here as well, whom should I ask instead,
maybe OOorg mailinglists?
Comment 9 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-01 14:33:05 UTC
I'm going to ask on irc anyway, so this shouldn't be necessary. Though one
problem is that virtually nobody builds anymore with gcc 3.3.x, 3.4.x is default
for 2.0 and most are already on 4.0.x, so it could be difficult to find someone
to help. Still, you could try to file a bug upstream at
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi and see if they have an idea.
Comment 10 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-02 14:04:10 UTC
hmm... I could update gcc. is it safe to just emerge it to 4.x, or do I have to
look for something tricky?
Comment 11 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-02 14:45:46 UTC
At the moment I would really go for 3.4.x
Comment 12 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 12:09:04 UTC
Ok, after updating gcc to version 3.4 I still get exactly the same error at
exactly the same location :(

Now I am really out of ideas ...
Comment 13 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 12:20:23 UTC
Pfff, that one is really good at hiding ;)

Another direction: Do you have stlport installed on your system?
Comment 14 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 13:32:50 UTC
thx for the hint, but after installing the package I still get the same error :(
Comment 15 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 13:43:13 UTC
No, actually, you don't have to have it installed, just wanted to check, if that
interferes somehow...
Comment 16 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-06 13:55:17 UTC
Hello, any news on this issue?
Comment 17 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-10 09:58:33 UTC
Hello there, _any_ news on this?
At least some response from you guys?
Comment 18 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-10 10:15:47 UTC
No there isn't. I can't reproduce it, you seem to be the only one who gets this
particular bug, so it is a little bit difficult to find a solution for it. If I
come up with a new idea, I'll post it, but atm this just looks like a
not-reproducable (by anyone else) compiler bug to me. Sorry.
Comment 19 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-10 10:17:12 UTC
ok, I understand this. But what can I do to get this new version of OOorg onto
my computer, w/o using the pre-compiled package?
Comment 20 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-11 00:45:31 UTC
You might want to try to make a chroot installation on your system and compile
in there. I'm 99% convinced that something in your environment is breaking
things. Using a chroot should put most of that out of play.
Comment 21 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-11 10:29:51 UTC
You mean booting from an actual liveCD, chroot and emerge?
Comment 22 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-13 09:03:05 UTC
No I mean something like the following:
wget http://your-favourite-mirror/pub/gentoo/bla/stage3.tar.bz2
mkdir /second-root
cd /second-root
tar xfj /path/to/stage3.tar.bz2
mount --bind /proc procmount --bind /dev dev
mkdir -p usr/portage
mount --bind /usr/portage portage
cp /etc/resolv.conf etc/resolv.conf
chroot .
. /etc/profile
emerge -b openoffice

.............................wait a LOOOOOOOOONG time.....................

# leave the chroot
exit
umount proc dev usr/portage

emerge -K openoffice

#optionally
rm -rf /second-root
Comment 23 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-14 22:14:45 UTC
I tried to 'ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -bOv openoffice -a' in the chroot, but
then I get this error during autoconfig:

...
checking png.h usability... no
checking png.h presence... no
checking for png.h... no
checking zlib.h usability... yes
checking zlib.h presence... yes
checking for zlib.h... yes
configure: error: install png-devel

!!! ERROR: app-office/openoffice-2.0.0 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 186, Exitcode 1
!!! Configuration failed!
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

Do I really need to emerge all deps for OOO in the chroot?
Comment 24 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-15 07:05:26 UTC
You need libpng in the chroot. Trying without -O (--onlydeps) would probably
work better.
Comment 25 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-15 12:58:15 UTC
But when I merge w/o the -O switch (=nodeps), then it would emerge lots of other
packages, which is what I do not want! Look for yourself:

itchy / # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -bv openoffice -a

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Comment 26 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-15 13:58:55 UTC
... and after merging "libpng" I get the next error during autoconf:

checking for bison... yes
checking for ccache... no
checking for widget sets... checking for FOO_GTK... configure: error: Gtk+
library requirements were not met
Comment 27 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-16 00:34:26 UTC
You might be able to reduce the list by specifying minimal useflags. Otherwise
if you have binary packages available, you could try to merge them in binary
mode. (or use quickpkg) Please remember though that if you specify minimal
useflags for openoffice, it will be limited in functionality. But the
....looooooong.... wait referred also to all deps.
Comment 28 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-30 00:22:31 UTC
So, what to do with this bug now? It's totally not reproducable and seems to be
a sole problem with something in the environment, so should we close it?
Comment 29 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-30 02:18:03 UTC
Yes. Matthias, if you find what caused it feel free to reopen the bug and add
the information. For now there's not a whole lot we can do though. Are you sure
you don't have a custom flex, bison or yacc installed that gets somehow picked up?
