Ok, I see what's happening, the LINGUAS-variable en should be replaced with en-US which it wasn't because of a stupid oversight, and this seems to result in the install not finding the right files. This should be fixed now, closing. Thanks for reporting!
Forgot to close the bug
Not fixed for me... In case you haven't noticed, I use LINGUAS="sl en"... It still fails identically.
Oh, I just figured... Maybe I should use LINGUAS="sl_SI en_US" ? It's been a while since I installed openoffice with linugas set ok...
@Gasper: No, your LINGUAS should be fine. If you still get the same error as before, the fix most likely did not propagate to your sync-mirror before you tried again. The problem before was that en was not replaced with en_US in certain cases, so if you still have messages like creating log file log_OOO680__sl_en.log instead of creating log file log_OOO680__sl_en_US.log than you built again with the old version, so emerge sync and try again.
syncing and rebuilding for the 5th time... Although I should note that it couldn't find the .sl files as well as the .en files, when slovene is defined as sl_SI in the dictionaries line.
It's still not working for me too. My LINGUAS is set to "hu en". In this version of the ebuild the top entry in the ChangeLog file was this: 25 Oct 2005; Andreas Proschofsky <suka@gentoo.org> openoffice-2.0.0.ebuild: Another shot at the quick fix for -java to make it also work for other languages than en_US. The only downside remaining atm is that the descriptions for the filters are not translated. Still a hack though. The end of the emerge process: Warning: ro_RO dictionary is not available... I grepped for the creating logfile lines in the portage log file. Hmm, seems like the hungarian translation is not being built correctly (which is another bug then the original "en"-problem, btw. Do you have a full build log, which you could put in a tarball and upload as an attachment? Might be that the hungarian translation is not finished and we have to take it out :(
Created attachment 71468 [details] Attached the log file: 3225-openoffice-2.0.0.log.bz2
Indeed, if I look through your log file, the hungarian translation is not being built anywhere. :( That's also the reason it fails later on.
Forget my last comment, it's only the help files which are not getting built (cause the help has not been translated yet), but this should be non-harmful, so still not knowing why it fails...
@Protech, btw, before I dig deeper into that: Are you sure your hard disk didn't fill up?
Hi, same problem here. I attach the log file. I built it again (in case you forgot, I'm the original poster...) Still the same error. Can you bypass the help-building and just revert to default (by some makefile switches etc.), I really want to use it :D. But still, it shouldn't fail because of help, I think that's an issue for the openoffice.org bugzilla...
Created attachment 71528 [details] My (slovenian) logfile (LINGUAS="sl en") Attached my logfile (note to self: bz2 compression is massive :D... 28MB->800k) Hope it helps in any way.
@Gasper: Actually, the help files not being there should be no problem at all, the build system already takes care of that and uses the english help instead
then dare I ask what the problem is? I do not doubt your skills, but as I am a programmer I really wish to know more.
Gasper, if I would know that, I would tell you, believe me ;) Didn't find anything suspicious in the logs until now, though. But maybe you could try something out: If you do LINGUAS="en sl" FEATURES="noauto" ebuild /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice/openoffice-2.0.0.ebuild install qmerge this should try the install again (without having to restart the build), see if that changes anything. Note the changed order of en and sl
Trying the command now, will post back...
I'm sorry to report that the install fails yet again. The changed order of linguas variable did nothing. Too bad. You can use me as a test bunny though, i've got a strong computer and spend a lot of time on it, so I can easily report back. Attaching the new log, in case it contains something new...
Created attachment 71532 [details] the new and improved install log :D
I have also tried setting the linguas variable in make.conf, exporting it and such, nothing I do changes the order of languages. That could be the e-build, as it always seems to run ./configure with --with-languages='sl en_US'... Or could it be that it's the past build influencing it?
FWIW: Same problem over here. LINGUAS="en_GB en en_CA" when it failed. No issue on hd space (I mounted a spare 55G partition under /var/tmp/portage specifically for this build). I'm just dumping everything in that directory then I'm going to retry with LINGUAS set to "en_US". Will check back tomorrow.
(In reply to comment #22) OK, just to let you know guys that I managed to install OO! -) Here is what I did since the last failed attempt, I don't know wether it's relevant: - did an emerge sync at 0700UT on Oct 26th - unmerged app-shells/csh-1.29-r3 as it was blocked by tcsh that had to be installed as a dependency for OO - updated from dev-libs/libxslt-1.1.14-r2 to dev-libs/libxslt-1.1.15 - added xml and xml2 to my global USE flags - re-emerged imagemagick, gawk, and samba as a result of my new USE flags - emerge openoffice! Good luck!
Closing this then. Also please be aware that portage does cache some of it's environment, trying to change some environment variables in the middle of compilation (by means of "ebuild ... compile") will not allways work.
I resynced today and did what Nicolas said, and surprise, it DID NOT WORK! It still fails with the sae damn error. Notable change: I emerged the version 2.0.0.1. This time, i've found out something weird: Error:grep: /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-2.0.0/image//gid_Module_Root.sl: No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 2 These are the contents of the above directory: saturn atom # ls /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-2.0.0/image/ etc/ gid_Module_Prg_Base gid_Module_Root_Files_2 gid_Module_Langpack_Help.en-US gid_Module_Prg_Calc gid_Module_Root_Files_3 gid_Module_Langpack_Resource.en-US gid_Module_Prg_Draw gid_Module_Root_Files_4 gid_Module_Optional_Grfflt gid_Module_Prg_Impress gid_Module_Root_Files_5 gid_Module_Optional_Javafilter gid_Module_Prg_Math gid_Module_Root_Files_6 gid_Module_Optional_Oo_English gid_Module_Prg_Wrt gid_Module_Root_Files_7 gid_Module_Optional_Pyuno gid_Module_Root gid_Module_Root_Files_8 gid_Module_Optional_Testtool gid_Module_Root.en-US usr/ gid_Module_Optional_Xsltfiltersamples gid_Module_Root.sl.new The notable file is the gid_Module_Root.sl.new! It seems that the module.sl can't be found because it's got a .new extension! Or maybe I'm just dubbing this wrong. In any case, the bug is not fixed, therefore I'm REOPENING.
Oh, another thing: the gid_Module_Root.en-US contains a lot of paths, while the .sl.new file is empty.
gid_Module_Root.sl.new is empty because it should be created from gid_Module_Root.sl, which is exactly the point where it fails, so no weirdness here
@ProTech: Could you please also provide your output of "emerge info", that would be helpful
More investigation: I've now built two times with different use flags and the build both times fails (when using "sl en"), so it definately seems to be a problem with certain languages. If we can't work out what the problem is (or maybe the translation is just not finished), I'll remove both hu and sl from the supported languages
That would be just awful, considering that rids me of a slovenian spellchecker. I'll see what I can do about it, it's a small country and an email to the slovenian maintainer would not be overlooked, imho.
Ok, I went to look at the progress of the translation, and saw that the slovenian help had been translated, but the inclusion won't happen till 2.0.1. I suggest not removing support for the packages, but instead doing this: in the ebuild, ewarn that the support has not been added yet, and remove it from the environment variable, and wait 5 seconds for the user to break the installation. After that, simply emerge the english version as though as the locale wasn't supported. I don't want sl removed from the supported locales, because then it will likely be forgotten to be added back :D. With a big fat warning, it will be easier to remember to get rid of the big fat warning and the stripping. What do you say?
I suggest waiting a little bit ;) I think I've nailed down the problem with upstream, let's see if we can come up with a solution...
Ok, here's the detail: This is a problem in the build-system, the problem is that you use "sl en" (in this order), which isn't handled properly. Normaly languages like sl which have no translated help-files should use en-US instead, but before it does that it checks for the primary language, which in this case is sl, so practically it links against the own non-existant help-files, which - no surprise - does not work. pmladek from Novell promised to work out a solution for this, so hopefully we should have that resolved soon
We're certainly rooting for this :D Thumbs up!
Just commited a fix for this, taken from upstream ooo-build. Already tested it and LINGUAS="sl en" now builds fine for me :) Please give the mirrors some time to catch up, before trying again. Closing this, in the hope, that it now really stays closed ;)
emerging again overnight... Will post success status :D
Yeah, it emerges cleanly! Way to go openoffice herd, the splashscreen's got a gentoo logo! You guys rock. I promise to reopen this bug when the version 2.0.1 comes out and there's something wrong again. Otherwise I'll just post that slovene's in there (and probably hungarian, too) and that it works. Thanks again guys.
The Hungarian translation is working too. Thanx for the fix.
