Description Ted Goodridge, Jr 2002-11-20 10:11:52 UTC
Due to a well documented bug in GTK/GDK1.2, all instant messenger apps that use
GTK (gabber, everybuddy, gaim) must use the --disable-screensaver option passed
to configure. Otherwise, the program will crash unexpectedly when it checks the
screensaver idle. I do not know if this is fixed in GTK/GDK2 or not, but this
is a *must* for these applications using GTK/GDK1.2.x.

I have never seen this happen, while i've been using Gabber for a looong time.
If it's so well documented, give me a good link (bugzilla preferably)
Comment 2 Ted Goodridge, Jr 2002-11-20 16:55:50 UTC
You have never seen it on the Alpha platform? Check out the archives of
axp-list@redhat.com & debian-alpha mailing lists. It's a crash with the GDK
Pixbuff. Are you running a DEC alpha? This bug is not present on the x86 arch.

Gabber crashed constantly for me until i compiled it with the
--disable-screensaver option in configure.
Comment 3 Ted Goodridge, Jr 2002-11-20 17:00:36 UTC
Ack, sorry. The crash is a GDK: Bad drawable.
Comment 4 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-11-20 17:06:14 UTC
Oh right.. sorry.. im x86 minded, i didn't see the full subject line (excuses,
excuses i know :)) and the platform thingy doesnt have alpha yet (file a bug
about that too ;)).

HMmmm up to the alpha guys to fix this one.

Hmmm bjb, i see you set the topic on #gentoo-alpha , passing this to you ;)

This issue has been fixed with a patch by Jay Eastabrook to Xlibs. This can be marked as resolved/closed. I used to have access to close my own bugs. I wonder what happened to change it.
Comment 6 Aron Griffis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-03 13:58:38 UTC
Cool. Closing the bug then.
