cisco vpn installation compile cisco_ipsec 2.4 and 2.6 module , 
And when you run a vpnclient or modprobe cisco_ipsec he try to load the 2.4 
version and its fail .

for resolv this i have delete /lib/modules/modules-2.6/CiscoVPN/*.o  
 
And leave only the .ko file fort 2.6 kernel .

What version of the VPN client is this problem happening with, please?

Its the 4.6.03.0190 compiled by gentoo ebuilt . 
 
I can't give you more information because i have remove it and use vpnc .
