# ebuild
/var/db/pkg/dev-db/mysql-4.1.<micro_version>/mysql-4.1.<micro_version>.ebuild config
# /etc/init.d/mysql start

emerge --config si the new preferred method of doing this I think so the line
should be changed to for example emerge --config =mysql-4.1.<micro_version>
