Description Ruben Garcia 2005-10-19 05:46:30 UTC
acroread-asianfonts has only version 5 in portage.
It is masked due to a security advisory.
Now the latest version of acroread is app-text/acroread-7.0.1.1,
but the corresponding acroread-asianfonts is missing from portage.

please add the ebuild to portage

Comment 1 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-19 05:49:32 UTC
adobe will only provide the package for the windows platform
Comment 2 James Cloos 2005-10-22 04:17:26 UTC
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/misc/

still has chsfont.tar.gz, chtfont.tar.gz, jpnfont.tar.gz and korfont.tar.gz.

the old ebuild for asianfonts 7.x should still work.

This should be reopened. (I cannot do so.)
Comment 3 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-23 03:10:43 UTC
As the comment above mentions, since the fonts exist, the ebuild can be fixed.
I reopen the bug.

Even if these fonts are installed, acroread cannot show cjk symbols without
embedded fonts.

Please emerge acroread with environment variable LINGUAS.

ex. LINGUAS="ja" emerge acroread.
Comment 5 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-23 05:21:28 UTC
Done.
Now the whole acrobat reader is in japanese.
Can't it be configured so the reader's menus are in one language, but the
documents can be in another?
Comment 6 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-26 03:59:10 UTC
I did the following to get japanese fonts working with the spanish acroread.

LINGUAS="es" emerge acroread
wget ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/misc/jpnfont.tar.gz
tar -zxvf jpnfont.tar.gz
cd JPNKIT/
sh INSTALL

and then gave /opt/Acrobat7/ as the installation place for acrobat.

I tested it with the document
http://www.infor.kanazawa-it.ac.jp/~satlab/cg/cg_cloth/NICOGRAPH2005.pdf

which shows a blank page on page 2 if the fonts are not installed;
the document shows correctly after the steps above.

Please add the emerge with the above instructions as
media-fonts/acroread-asianfonts 7
and unmask.

I consider this bug fixed as soon as the emerge appears.

Thank you all for your comments
Comment 7 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-26 04:04:30 UTC
Another test example with japanese characters which can be seen with my procedure
(i.e., no embedded fonts)

Comment 8 Ruben Garcia 2005-10-28 03:05:07 UTC
Should I create the ebuild myself?
I have never done an ebuild, but I can try.

ebuild for acroread-asianfonts-7.0.1, not working as expected

I changed the base url to point to the correct sources in acrobat 7, but since
the mirror has the old version it downloads the 5.x version instead of the
correct one.
I don't know what I should change so that the correct fonts are downloaded.
