Description Chance Platt 2005-10-18 14:57:43 UTC
When you run xchat on sparc64, it crashes due to a segfault, specifically "Bus
error" on entry to a room. xchat-2.4.3 does not suffer from this malady.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge xchat
2. run it
3. Select a server, click Connect ..

Comment 1 John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-27 14:43:34 UTC
anyone from sparc team reproduce?
Comment 2 Ferris McCormick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-27 15:04:19 UTC
Yes, that's the reason for the downgrade (see the Changelog). It seems to be
the case on all sparc systems. (We went sparc->~sparc because of this problem.)
From the Changelog:
==================================
 19 Oct 2005; Ferris McCormick <fmccor@gentoo.org> xchat-2.4.5.ebuild:
Reverting to ~sparc for more testing. On a few systems, under as yet unknown
context, xchat-2.4.5 generates a Bus Error when it tries to connect. Details
  not yet known.

Comment 4 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-16 10:15:45 UTC
xchat-2.6.0 works fine, so either downgrade to 2.4.3 or use the new one.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=330466

This fixes the problem on PPC.

Debian patch that fix0rs it

Here's the debian patch that fixes the issue, tested at least for sparc.
Comment 7 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-22 09:26:11 UTC
revbumped into 2.4.5-r1 with swegener's ok.
Comment 8 Joe Jezak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-22 10:12:25 UTC
I've marked 2.4.5 -ppc. 2.4.5-r1 does fix the problem on ppc as well.
Comment 9 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-23 06:56:10 UTC
sparc stabled 2.4.5-r1
Comment 10 Joe Jezak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-25 22:41:43 UTC
Marked ppc stable.
Comment 11 Alec Warner (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2006-02-09 17:09:53 UTC
fixed on sparc and on ppc, thus fixed and closed.
