I found a solution. The problem was a dependency with the ebuild glibs which is needed for gst-plugins but seems not to be a dependency when trying to emerge it - maybe someone can check on this?! Steps to fix my problem were: emerge glibs emerge kde This time gst-plugins finished compiling.
