Description manolis 2005-10-16 06:11:04 UTC
I installed 8.18.6 ati-drivers. X runs fine, KDE loads and runs fine, BUT when I
move the mouse OR press ANY key, X (xorg) dies instantly.
I had the same behaviour with 8.16.20.
The same doesnt happen in 8.14.xx series , wich works fine.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge ati-drivers (ver 8.18.6)
2.
3.

Actual Results:
X dies while moving the mouse or pressing any key on the keyboard

Expected Results:
X to keep handling the mouse/keyboard events and not die

I found the solution.
The crash is happening ONLY if I edit the xorg.conf
And remove all the available resolutions and put only one like the above:
"1024x768"
If from the glrxconfig line :
"1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
I remove only the :
"1280x1024"
and the final line in xorg.conf is:
"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
the crash does not happen

Comment 4 manolis 2005-11-01 01:21:01 UTC
the same happens with 8.18.8

but not with the old 8.14.13
Comment 5 manolis 2006-10-12 12:14:45 UTC
the new drivers have resolved the bug... (8.29.6)
