I now finally got wireless working on my new Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7440. My main problem was that I was not able to open the kill switch, which is implemented via software on this laptop. The wireless button did not work, you need a kernel module which can do this. Finally I found the fsam7440 kernel module, which is needed by everyone who wants to use WLAN with this notebook (and perhaps similiar models). I used this http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56242 as a base and changed the important parts for making it working for this modul. Well, it worked for me on: PM1600 fsam7440-0.3 # emerge info Portage 2.0.51.22-r3 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.1-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -frename-registers -mfpmath=387,sse -funroll-loo CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shu re/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -frename-registers -mfpmath=387,sse -funroll-l -fvisibility-inlines-hidden" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks prelink sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-dar LANG="de_DE@euro" LC_ALL="de_DE@euro" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--enable-new-dtags -Wl,--sort-common -s" LINGUAS="de" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://192.168.3.1/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X acpi alsa apache2 arts avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bzlib cdr crypt cups curl dga dvd dvdread eds emboss encode fam fbcon foomaticdb gdbm gif gimp gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 i8x0 iml rivers ipv6 jpeg kde kdeenablefinal lib++ libg++ libwww linguas_de lzw-tiff mad mikmod mmx mmx2 mp3 mpeg es nls nptl ogg oggvorbis opengl openssh oss pam pdflib perl php pic png python qt quicktime readline sd svg tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1 type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales videos vorbis win32code xvid zlib video_cards_i915 userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET Okay, maybe this finds it way into the tree. At least I will write some lines about how to set up Gentoo on this laptop and refer to this. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Created attachment 70734 [details] Ebuild for fsam7440-0.3
(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug) 'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached to this bug. This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the main tree. Heuristics show that no Gentoo developer has commented on your ebuild. Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely manner. There are simply too many new packages. Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =) Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us. We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time. Thanks, On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team, Jeremy.
