I've built and run successfully rxvt-unicode-5.7.

Done, it builds successfully with gcc4 too.

were there USE flags, and if so, which ones did you use/test?

The only use flag which can affect build is xgetdefault; it enables the use of
the XGetDefault function instead of the internal one, but in both cases it
builds successfully.  Note that I'm using Xcode 2.1 which ships the final gcc4.

rxvt-unicode?

tabs pulls dependency which is not yet keyworded.
