Gam_server continually segfaults when invoked by nautilus. It then continually repsawns. In the meantime, however, nautilus and gnome-settings-daemon both use up all avaialble resources on both cores, coming close to bringing down the machine. Famd works nicely Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.merge gamin 2.try to use nautilus for some time, after 3 minutes, notice cpu usage skyrocket 3.look at dmesg, notice gam_server is constantly segfaulting Actual Results: gam_server constantly segfaults Expected Results: Should have worked like famd Portage 2.0.53_rc5 (default-linux/amd64/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.13-gentoo-r1 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-gentoo-r1 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre9 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.13 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.20 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib64/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://open-systems.ufl.edu/mirrors/gentoo http://gentoo.netnitco.net ftp://194.117.143.69/mirrors/gentoo http://mir.zyrianes.net/gentoo/" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://hydrogen.oshean.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aalib alsa apache2 avi bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dba dbus dvd dvdr eds emboss encode esd fam flac foomaticdb fortran gd gd-external gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal howl imagemagick imlib ipv6 jack jpeg junit kde ldap libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad mikmod mod motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib perl php png python qt quicktime readline samba scanner sdl speex spell sqlite ssl svg tcltk tcpd tiff transcode truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales vorbis xine xml xml2 xmms xpm xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
Gamin version ... ?
.1.6
Recent occurance? I see its a Dual Core amd64, and while its working fine here on my normal amd64, I just want to check if it might be a locking issue (ie, previous versions worked on same system and cpu) on SMP/Dual Core systems Gamin side, or such.
This is actually the first version of gamin i've ever used on this system. Primarily, I use famd for this sort of thing. In any case, I figured i'd test what was in the gnome upgrade doc to ensure all was ok on amd64 dual core...seems it may not be. The good news is, however, that this is the only issue i've experienced thus far. I'll try a previous version in the meantime.
Can you try gamin-0.1.7 or gamin-0.1.6-r1? Seems there was a double free in the code.
this bug is fixed in .1.7
