for: http://packages.gentoo.org/packages/?category=net-im;name=aim the license shows lgpl-2.1 but i think this is wrong. aol's aim ships a modified gtk-lib which is lgpl but aim itself is not lgpl'ed. maybe there: http://www.aim.com/tos/tos.adp or there: http://about.aol.com/aolnetwork/terms_use is something anyone can call a license for aim...don't know... sorry for this bugreport if i'm wrong here. i dont know where else (or whom) to message this. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
http://www.aim.com/get_aim/linux/latest_linux.adp <snip> This software uses a modification of the GTK Library (available at http://www.gtk.org) and is licensed under LGPL. </snip>
ok, you're right. this one sentence alone... but i'm pretty shure they mean the modified gtktext only. at http://about.aol.com/aolnetwork/terms_use they write that their "Software is a 'commercial item,' as that term is defined in 48 C.F.R. 2.101, [...]" and they deliver source of gtktext in aim-package but no aim-source. btw: ask them for source of aim. im shure they wont give you ;-) and i'm shure (ok, my english is not the best) that in the context of the hole chapter <snip> This software uses a modification of the GTK Library (available at http://www.gtk.org) and is licensed under LGPL. In accordance with this license, the files modified for use in this software are provided free of charge at this location. The files can be found packaged with each of these download LINUX AIM versions, or downloaded separately here (tar.gz file). The modifications were localized to the gtktext tool. </snap> you can see that gtktext is the thing which is lgpl. i dont mind. if you count on it, you can do what you want, but im shure it isnt what aol thinks.
