Every time that I try to change the volume with the volume applet, the applet mutes the channels. I've tried changing it by sliding and by scrolling, but they both end up muting the volume. In order to get the channels unmuted are to open a mixing program, such as alsamixer or Gnome's Volume Control, and then the volume is adjusted properly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Place volume control applet in panel 2.Adjust volume via applet 3. Actual Results: Channels are muted Expected Results: Channels are adjusted
Some additional info: This problem doesn't happen with the previous version of gnome-applets/mixer/applet.h and gnome-applets/mixer/applet.c (applet.h rev. 1.7 and applet.c rev. 1.37 in gnome cvs)
Not sure if "me too" messages are useful, but this happens to me on both my laptop (intel8x0 sound hardware) and my desktop (emu10k).
(As stated under the topic "Gnome 2.12" @ f.g.o) Well now first I have been able to reproduce this thing. If i just play something in mplayer or bmp and have no other multimedia-programs open the applet works just fine. But as soon as I have mixer open at the same time the applet does not behave. Closing the mixer gives fully functional applet back. So this may have something to do with having other programs started controlling the Master-mixer at the same time?
I can intermittently reproduce this. It requires: 1) playing audio (I used ogg123) 2) Having the mixer applet open 3) Changing the volume via the volume applet. It only happens sometimes. I'm not sure what to do about it, tho, so I'll bump it upstream. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318991
This is fixed by gnome-applest-2.12.1-r2. Note that dropping the volume to zero still mutes, see this bug for more on that: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170575
