Since I see this is opengl related, I guess it may be helpful to note that I use
opengl w/my nvidia 6600gt card... (maybe this isn't helpful but there you have it)

Did you forgot using `opengl-update` maybe?
Comment 2 Michael Kelly 2005-10-11 18:19:30 UTC
I've gotten the same error. I did run opengl-update, and tried it in both nvidia
and xorg-x11. Also noteworthy: I tried re-emerging wxGTK-2.6.1 to see if that
would produce the same error, and it did NOT fail to find the GL libs (in other
words, ./configure was successful).
Comment 3 Josh Pryor 2005-10-11 20:54:15 UTC
Same configure error here with 2.6.2, no problem with 2.6.1. No nvidia drivers
here, however. Rerunning 'opengl-update xorg-x11' had no effect. config.log is
attached ( I wasn't able to make much sense of it ).

Michael, are you on amd64 also?

We have no wx packages in portage that actually use opengl as far as I know, so
you can safely disable it until this is fixed.
Comment 6 Waldo 2005-10-12 00:40:47 UTC
opengl-update... it does nothing!

(didn't make a difference)

Same problem here; "opengl-update nvidia" (and "eselect opengl set nvidia")
didn't help.

Adding "=x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.2 -opengl" to /etc/portage/package.use did result in
a successful emerge. That's cool for me for now but it would be nice to have
opengl enabled in the future in case a package does come along that requires it.

also amd64 here (nvidia and ati systems)

same error as others, but when I do an ebuild unpack and a "./configure
--with-opengl":

checking GL/gl.h usability... yes
checking GL/gl.h presence... yes
checking for GL/gl.h... yes
checking for -lGL... yes
checking for -lGLU... yes

looks like it's an ebuild problem. I looked and didn't see anything wrong with
it, though...

Comment 16 Peter `MathFox' Roozemaal 2005-10-14 02:21:39 UTC
A workaround that works for me is to add the line

=x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.2 -opengl

to the /etc/portage/package.use file.
It will disable opengl support in this wxGTK version.
Comment 17 oxi 2005-10-14 04:22:20 UTC
Thank you mate, that did it. :)
Comment 18 oxi 2005-10-14 04:27:20 UTC
I guess i talked too soon... it didnt work actually...
I did an emerge --sync before trying to emerge it again

checking for -lGL... no
checking for -lMesaGL... no
configure: error: OpenGL libraries not available

!!! ERROR: x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.2 failed.
!!! Function subconfigure, Line 83, Exitcode 1
!!! ./configure failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

I'm seeing this on amd64 as well. the "-opengl" USE flag is all well and good,
but I'm rather interested in the why, more than the workaround. Rob, talk to me
on irc if there's any realtime type of info I can provide to help you locate the
causes of this bug.
Comment 20 Rob Cakebread (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-14 09:58:01 UTC
Seemant, I'm trying to get ahold of you on irc.

In the meantime, it seems the culprit is in wxlib.eclass. If you remove this
line it works, but I'm testing it on x86 and other wxGTK versions to make sure
it breaks nothing else:

         --host=${CHOST} \

For the one person not on amd64 (Anatoly) please make sure you have a working
opengl (run opengl-update). If that doesn't work, please open another bug and
attach your config.log.
Comment 21 Rob Cakebread (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-14 14:31:18 UTC
Fixed wxlib.eclass in CVS
