Shouldn't you run `emerge --metadata` if you drop a whole tree into /usr/portage
without doing `emerge --sync` ?
Comment 3 Michael Kohl (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-11 06:08:54 UTC
From #gentoo-bsd:

Flameeyes: jstubbs, is emerge --metadata required after extracting on
/usr/portage a snapshot of the portage tree? :P
spb: sync downloads the tree then does metadata
jstubbs: not required, no.
jstubbs: just speeds things up a bit later.
arachnist: Flameeyes: it's nice to do it, otherwise emerge <anything> is stalled
forever
spb: if you're grabbing the tree then metadata is a good idea
jstubbs: a lot perhaps

So, yeah, it would be nice if you could add it, thanks!

It's in CVS now, thanks.
I bumped version/date and added info about emerge --metadata.
