Firefox and Mozilla sometimes crash and take X down with them (signal 11) when I try to use http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php for decoding the ASCII-Art Image on http://www.lamamail.de/stuff/battlenet.html (this was index.html on www.battle.net a couple of hours ago). This *could* be an nVidia problem, I've seen similar on my friend's laptop. Give the nv driver a spin and see if the problem goes away.
> Give the nv driver a spin and see if the problem goes away. You're right, it doesn't crash with the nv driver.
Ok, re-assigning. Just to double-check: do you have RenderAccel on or off?
RenderAccel is on, when I turn it off it doesn't crash anymore.
RenderAccel seems to constantly have stability issues. However, I hear nVidia cards are kinda slow without... I'll leave this to those who know the driver better.
I just stumbled upon this problem again, this time with Firefox 1.5.0.6 and 2.0_beta1 on xorg-x11-7.0-r1 with the latest nvidia driver (1.0.8762-r1). Just go to a page where you can input lots of stuff into a single text input field (the search box of http://www.cherrypy.org for example) and paste the same text over and over again. My screen goes blank and I can't use the keyboard no more, starting a new X server over ssh helps. After the crash you can see some debug messages on VT7, but I can't scroll them back and they don't seem to appear anywhere else.
Looks like this also happens on Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/coreutils/+bug/46034
This bug is fixed in the upcoming 9xxx-Series of nVidia drivers.
