When using the minimal CD, the Handbook is inaccurate. It claims you can "Unpack the Snapshot from the Installation CD". This is not true with the minimal CD: you have to download the snapshot from the internet! Moreover, there is no simple way to donwload the distfiles: you must know which ones are needed and you have to download each single file by hand. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow the Handboox for x86 with a minimal installation CD Actual Results: You have to work things around by hand. Expected Results: A more accurate step-by-step procedure. Maybe also a single TAR archive with all the needed distfiles. I wonder whetner anyone else but me already tried this installation procedure with a minimal CD!!

I guess everyone else reads the right handbook :) The 2005.1 handbook can only be used with the universal installation CD as explained at the very beginning: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.1/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=1
