sys-libs/com_err-1.38 warns to do a revdep-rebuild NOW, but I didn't have
gentoolkit installed (providing the revdep-rebuild script).

Plese put gentoolkit as a RDEPEND.

Tons of things require running revdep-rebuild at one point or another. RDEPEND
is for runtime dependencies and revdep-rebuild is hardly a runtime dependency of
a library, it's a system maintenance tool.

OK, I agree with that but then, either change the warning like:

"... run revdep-rebuild (from app-portage/gentoolkit) ... "

or... but that is a big change,
put gentoolkit in system, or as a dependancy for sys-apps/portage
