Hmm where to start.... With Opera 6.03 and lowere lesstif fixed issues with Opera not executing java applets. Now with Opera 6.1 lesstif is actually a blocker. I emerged the new version of Opera a few days ago and I was having some issues getting Java working. The java applet would load but stay a dark gray box. Nothing would show. I guessed that since the new version of Opera points at java/bin I thought maybe lesstif was no longer needed. Sure enough, I unmerged lesstif and java applets load normally. Just a quick heads up :)
Did you have both openmotif and lesstif installed at the same time?
No I did not. For some reason OpenMotif was causing Mozilla to crash when trying to visit Java sites so I removed it. I removed it way before installing Opera 6.03 and lesstif. When I upgraded to Opera 6.1 I could open Java sites but I had gray boxes in the place where the java applets should have been. Figuring it might be lesstif, I removed it and everything started working again. I actually do not have either motif installed at the moment.
i'm trying to clean up the motif situation ... #29388
can you still reproduce that?
opera needs lesstif, as long as you can't reproduce that...
