on linux this symlink appears to point into the blue as well, although the shell doesn't really 'see' the link is dead... weird.

I seem to have this behaviour on my Tiger system, too. - Is it possible to emerge special packages to detect invalid links in gentoo? - Perhaps this problem should assigned to the package maintainers, or a new bug should be opened. The text-markup herd should be appropriate for this app.
