hmmm, this one fails for me during actuall merge to the live filesystem stage:

--- /usr/share/man/
--- /usr/share/man/man1/
>>> /usr/share/man/man1/asciidoc.1.gz
>>> /etc/asciidoc/filters/code-filter.conf ->
/usr/share/asciidoc/filters/code-filter.conf
>>> /etc/asciidoc/filters/code-filter.py ->
/usr/share/asciidoc/filters/code-filter.py
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/doc/docbook.css -> ../stylesheets/docbook.css
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/doc/images -> ../images
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/images -> ../../images/
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/xhtml11-manpage.css ->
../../stylesheets/xhtml11-manpage.css
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/xhtml11-quirks.css ->
../../stylesheets/xhtml11-quirks.css
>>> /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/xhtml11.css ->
../../stylesheets/xhtml11.css
!!! failed to properly create symlink:
!!! /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/CHANGELOG.txt -> ../../CHANGELOG.txt
!!! [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/CHANGELOG.txt'
!!! Failed to move file.
!!! /usr/share/asciidoc/examples/website/CHANGELOG.txt -> ../../CHANGELOG.txt

resulting in a nice incomplete merge... :(

on linux this symlink appears to point into the blue as well, although the shell
doesn't really 'see' the link is dead... weird.

I seem to have this behaviour on my Tiger system, too.

- Is it possible to emerge special packages to detect invalid links in gentoo?

- Perhaps this problem should assigned to the package maintainers, or a new bug should be opened.
The text-markup herd should be appropriate for this app.

I'm fixing this at the very moment. The symlinks are just copied over, but
their actual targets aren't

Fixed.  As ~ppc-macos in portage
