As soon as gentoo-alt svn module is in place, Gentoo/ALT would need a daily snapshot of the overlay to direct the users to. This overlay will be used for in-out ebuilds with (experimental) patches to build on Gentoo/ALT platforms. Thanks, Diego
As stated in #-infra, I was thinking we could stick these snapshot overlays in /experimental/snapshots on our mirrors. The overlay is well under 5M uncompressed, so space is not a concern at all. One thing to note is we will need to install svn on osprey which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Also, making the script shouldn't require too much work (I hope at least). Thoughts?

I'll try and get some time to look into getting things running on osprey. Do you have any ideas on the naming scheme for this snapshot? Currently we use something similar to portage-20050928.tbz2. Would portage-alt-20050928.tbz2 work?
I would say adding the word overlay would be preferable... something like portage-alt- overlay-20050928.tbz2 seems good.

Ok, I just ran it by hand and all seems well. I put the cronjob in too which should run every day at 1:40am UTC. I'll leave this open to make sure this is working properly. Expect to see the first snapshot show up in the next 1-4 hours. We have now moved both overlays on overlays.g.o, but the snapshots are somewhat still needed (you usually don't put Subversion on a released stage ;) ).. is it possible to have the location where the checkout is done from changed? The urls are: http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/alt/trunk/transition-overlay for portage-alt-overlay and http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/alt/trunk/prefix-overlay for portage-alt-prefix .

What's the status of this bug? Lance, I don't know what information you exactly need, but I use the following to checkout the prefix tree: svn co "http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/alt/trunk/prefix-overlay" Diego mentioned the url for Gentoo/FreeBSD in his post above. Thanks!

I don't want snapshots for gentoo-alt/prefix-overlay anymore. Creating them would lead to confusion and breakage of the bootstrap process when used. In the meanwhile I "automated" the process myself where I deemed that necessary.
