Whenever a language other than English is chosen, the selection remains ineffective. Problem: Skype expects all language files in /usr/share/skype/lang while it is installed in /opt/skype/lang. Solution: Creating a symlink for /usr/share/skype pointing to /opt/skype. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
I changed the languages to a few different ones today, and all of them were working okay here.
Actually i can duplicate this. Can you attach an emerge info? And report what window manager / sound daemon you have?
I use KDE 3.4.1 and the ALSA sound daemon compiled in the gentoo-kernel-2.6.12-r10. Since Skype cannot use ALSA at the moment, I think I use a compatibility option in the kernel, too. By the way, I think I had the same problem with a Debian system before. Therefore I am quite sure that it is a Skype bug, which fortunately can be solved easily by creating the mentioned symlink. Here is the "emerge info": Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -O2" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -O2" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="de_DE.utf8" LC_ALL="de_DE.utf8" LINGUAS="de en ja" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow X acpi alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bluetooth cdr cjk crypt cups curl dv dvd dvdr eds emboss encode esd exif fam ffmpeg foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 icq ieee1394 imagemagick imlib immqt-bc ipv6 java javascript joystick jpeg junit kde ldap libg++ libwww lm_sensors m17n-lib mad mikmod motif mp3 mpeg msn ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline scanner sdl spell ssl tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales vorbis win32codecs xine xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib linguas_de linguas_en linguas_ja userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
