Would be of great value not only for new/fast boxes, but also for old/slow 
ones (as the cache can be located on a NFS drive too). See

On a similar note.  Is there enough in common between the various packages that
use autoconf (like probing for glibc and gcc) that a global config.cache could
be sourced to speed up the ./configure step in a build?

ccache is in portage.
