/etc/init.d/hald has a need dependency on hotplug. However the hotplug init script is now defunct. From /etc/init.d/hotplug: # nothing here anymore. Please use the coldplug package if you really want to # load modules for devices that are discovered by your kernel before init runs. Starting hald then starts hotplug which checks for hotplug support in the kernel and unpacks any firmware tarballs. Stopping hotplug will then stop hald even though there is no stop function in the hotplug script. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. /etc/init.d/hald stop 2. /etc/init.d/hald start 3. /etc/init.d/hotplug stop Actual Results: The Hardware Abstraction Layer daemon was stopped. Expected Results: Should not have stopped hald.
