 * Syncing system clock to hardware clock [UTC] ...                       [ ok ]
root@gf:~# /etc/init.d/clock stop
 * Syncing system clock to hardware clock [UTC] ...                       [ ok ]

root@gf:~# /etc/init.d/clock start
 * Setting system clock to hardware clock [UTC] ...                       [ ok ]

you notice the small difference? :-)
i think we should change the words a little here.
something which is uniqly understandable:

first direction:
"reading hardware clock, writing system clock."

second direction:
"reading system clock, writing hardware clock."
