I have full ACPI support in my kernel, if I boot my pc from battery or ac adapter I get: ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery absent) in my dmesg. If I plug in my ac, and then out again ( or out in out if it was in ) then the battery is detected. It is a NEC Versa P550 btw. It knows there can be a battery in it, as /proc/apci/battery/BAT1/state is there. Just says there's no battery there when there is. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Compile kernel with acpi 2. Boot 3. have a look at /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state Actual Results: battery absent Expected Results: batteyr should be detected Battery info after it is detected: present: yes design capacity: 4800 mAh last full capacity: 4945 mAh battery technology: rechargeable design voltage: 14800 mV design capacity warning: 400 mAh design capacity low: 197 mAh capacity granularity 1: 64 mAh capacity granularity 2: 64 mAh model number: PC-VP-WP66/OP-570-76620 serial number: battery type: Lion OEM info: NEC
Please post "emerge --info" output to every bug that you file, like the bug report form asks.

Please try and reproduce this on gentoo-sources-2.6.13-r1, attaching the full dmesg output if the problem still exists.
Created attachment 68384 [details] dmesg from the kernel you requested Still did not get the expected results, battery still "absent".
Ok, looks like a bug we have to file upstream. The only other thing to try is upgrading the BIOS if there are any updates available. Could you please test vanilla-sources-2.6.14-rc1 so that we are in a position to file an upstream bug?
When you test 2.6.14-rc1, please compile with the CONFIG_DEBUG_ACPI option and attach a new dmesg output from that kernel.
I've been away the weekend (as you prolly noticed), I'll try 2.6.14 tomorrow
I b0rked my system trying to resize a partition, i'll try it as soon as possible ;(
Please reopen when you are able to test further
It's been a while, but noticed the problem again, so I reopend the bug. Created attachment 81534 [details] New dmesg (might be handy)
Please ensure you are running the latest BIOS, then try the latest development kernel (currently 2.6.16-rc5) compiled with CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG, and post a new dmesg log.
Created attachment 81623 [details] dmesg
Check for bios updates, and the one I have was still the latest (upgraded a few weeks ago). Posted the dmesg from the latest development kernel with CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG enabled as you asked. Problem still exists with that kernel.
Ok, please report an upstream bug against 2.6.16-rc5 at http://bugzilla.kernel.org and include that dmesg report. When done, post the new URL here.
