Description Michael Stewart (vericgar) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-07 19:44:26 UTC
When doing a cvs up on the portage tree, cvs segfaulted, and sysklogd sent the
following message to the shell (I neglected to write it down, pulled this from
the logfile after rebooting):

Sep 7 19:10:38 phoenix kernel: Assertion failure in __flush_buffer() at
fs/jbd/checkpoint.c:247: "!buffer_jwrite(bh)"

After that, the system proceeded to collapse in on itself as each peice of
software tried to access the disk and none could.

I'm not sure if this is just an issue with my machine, or if it's a genuine
kernel bug. I'm hoping that someone with more experience with the kernel can
figure that out. Let me know if there's anything more you need me to provide.
Comment 1 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-08 00:11:36 UTC
Is this reproducible on gentoo-sources-2.6.13? You also need to compile with
CONFIG_KALLSYMS for the error messages to be useful.
Comment 2 Michael Stewart (vericgar) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-17 17:28:46 UTC
I've been unable to reproduce my own bug, I'm going to chalk it up to a machine
that is slowly dieing.
