swat manpages (help in swat) are not available to swat for example http://10.0.0.5:901/swat/help/manpages/smb.conf.5.html#DISABLENETBIOS gives 404 code. havent found them in filesystem neither. is it by design or a feature? :)
Your 'emerge info'? there is a 'doc' keyword that enables all documentation, including swat one. 'emerge -pv samba' will tell all your use flags and their last status. Also, please emerge samba-3.0.20-r1, since 3.0.20 ships with a typo in a patch, and doesn't install smbfs mount/umount support (cifs only). Closing for now. Please reopen this bug if this is not the solution (and flame me :-) ).
lame me! havents checked the use flags. indeed i dont have a 'doc' one. i was lured seeing all the helpfiles in /usr/share/doc/samba*/swat/help and i just thought these which were interesting to me were gone. off the topic though - why are above files there ? shouldnt also be removed if no 'doc' flag is used?
the help files are necessary to swat, while the Guide and the HowTo are more general docs. Anyway, swat has a great voice in their location (==statically linked).
unfortunately it seems that manpages ARE missing in samba 3.0.20r1 swat directory. my emerge info: Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 1.40GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe -funroll-loops -fstack-protector" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig collision-protect distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo http://trumpetti.atm.tut.fi/gentoo http://www.fhh.opensource-mirror.de/gentoo.org" MAKEOPTS="-j9" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://1g.compfort.com.pl/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apm berkdb bitmap-fonts chroot crypt doc eds emboss gdbm gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hpn joeg jpeg minimal mmx mp3 ncurses nptl ogg pam perl python readline samba sftplogging sse ssl symlink tcpd truetype-fonts type1-fonts vorbis xinetd zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY #epm -q -l samba | grep manpages # #emerge -pv samba ... I think this has already been fixed upstream. 3.0.20b installs all required manpages. Reopen if needed
