Device-mapper is Linux's way of interfacing with those RAID adapters which are actually software-based (aka "BIOS raid"). It would be great if info could be added to Gentoo's documentation collection about howto interface with dmraid partitions or maybe even how to install onto a "BIOS raid" adapter without turning off its raid capabilities. This may be a good start: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_Install_on_Bios_(Onboard)_RAID
I have actually tested this howto : It sure works .. will do some research on that topic and look if there are other ways and especially if i can put the "windows" part in gentoo. It should suck to put this in an official gentoo-doc. diox
Shouldnt this part be removed, since it is masked? #echo "sys-fs/dmraid ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords #emerge dmraid # Alec Warner <antarus@gentoo.org> (03 Aug 2006) # sys-fs/dmraid masked for treecleaners for bug(s) 139860,103912, # 134050, 138823 Removal in 30 days sys-fs/dmraid

dmraid has been p.masked for awhile now, getting very close to being kicked (almost 30 days), and there's still no maintainer. Plus, mdadm is much more flexible. I count a total of 5 references to DMraid in our docs, and two of those are basically repeats of each other. It's known to be broken and buggy, though it is technically an alternative to mdadm. Plus, we won't copy and paste gentoo-wiki documents, nor will we link to them. You may reopen this request if a maintainer is found, but its fate is not looking good.
dmraid is staying put, whether it be the package in portage or in genkernel -- would it be possible to reopen this request?
