Description Philip Webb 2005-09-04 07:00:35 UTC
I have kernels 2.6.9-gentoo-r1 & 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 installed.
When I change the one I boot, the Gkrellm2 sensor display disappears:
it is not one or other kernel version, but changing from one to another.
I can restore the display via the Gkrellm2 config menus without problem.
This happened when I was relying on the built-in sensor controls
& after I emerged & configured Lm_sensors (which works correctly from CLI).
This looks like a bug inside Gkrellm2 or its interface with the sensors.
I am using Gkrellm-2.2.5 running in KDE 3.4.1 with Udev.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot a different kernel version
2. start Gkrellm2 & notice sensor display is missing
3. restore display via Gkrellm2 config menus
4. boot a different kernel version & repeat AD NAVSEAM

Actual Results:
The sensor display in Gkrellm2 is not visible.

Expected Results:
The sensor display should remain visible after booting a different kernel.

See above for version numbers of packages.

the sensors modules are mergen into /lib/modules/foo or into
/lib/modules/kernel_version/foo?

merged even ;)
Comment 3 Philip Webb 2005-10-15 11:00:21 UTC

Please, try w/ 2.2.9-r1 and report back.
Comment 5 Philip Webb 2006-09-20 12:03:45 UTC
I tried it with the only other kernel I have available 2.6.12-gentoo-r9
& the same bug occurs, ie no sensor lines in the display;
however, when I return to my usual kernel 2.6.14-gentoo , the display is there.
I did not try restoring it to 2.6.12 using the Gkrellm config manager,
so I didn't do a complete test of all steps.
I am using Gkrellm 2.2.9-r1 & KDE 3.5.4 .

I am just about to catch up with modular X ,
after which I shall also compile the latest kernel, presumably 2.6.17-something.
After that, I will try testing again a bit more thoro'ly.
Comment 6 Philip Webb 2006-09-24 08:30:15 UTC
I've installed kernel 2.6.18 & the sensor display still appears as usual,
so the problem seems to have been fixed somewhere since 2.6.12
or in the latest Gkrellm 2.2.9-r1 .
