Description John Ratliff 2005-09-03 16:44:46 UTC
When I attempt to emerge gconf-2.10.1-r1, it fails with the message

/usr/bin/orbit-idl-2 ./GConfX.idl
gcc-config error: Could not run/locate "i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc"
Error: Empty file

** (process:24319): WARNING **: ./GConfX.idl compilation failed
orbit-idl-2 2.12.2 compiling
mode, show preprocessor errors, passes: stubs skels common headers

I have tried fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.5 --oldarch i386-pc-linux-gnu, but it
doesn't help.

Attached is my emerge gconf output and my emerge --info output.

The same thing happened to me. I initially did a GRP install, so that I could
have a nice usable system while I compiled everything.

You need to run fix_libtool_files.sh with the appropriate arguments for anything
that uses libstdc++ (kde), but for this issue:

re-emerge dev-libs/libIDL (and possibly gnome-base/orbit)
Comment 4 Daniel Kaplun 2005-09-18 17:37:36 UTC
I fixed the problem, but this requires a reinstall :S What I did was, as I said,
reinstall Gentoo, but this time around, I used the manual online instead of the
one in the CD. Second, I didn't use the packages CD. Although it took me more
than 12 hours to compile Gnome, it worked.

user resolved issue

Thanks Ben. re-emerging libIDL worked perfectly.

I did just as you did, using GRP to get things started, then I started upgrading.
