isn't this a violation of Conexant's license?

Maybe you should better distribute your changes as a patch toigether with an
unmodified version of the hsflinmodem driver to not violate license,

I guess that some sort of reverse engineering has been used, which means ...
guess what... exactly, license violation!
the proclamed LICENSE of the attached ebuild is really hilarious :D

If you write a hsf driver from scratch, I'd be happy to import it in the portage
tree, but this is not acceptable.

No reverse engineering was done. I have ported the version 5 of the driver.
This version has a very different license. See
http://dominia.org/djao/hsflinmodem/hsflinmodem-5.03.27mbsibeta02122600.tar.gz.

The new, restrictive license was introduced in version 6.
The only thing that I am not sure whether I can distribute is the .O files.
Because of this the ebuild downloads them from the above URL.
