Trying to install postfix (which I have done dozens of times previously on different boxes with gentoo) I get the following error: --------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY --------------------------- LOG FILE = "/var/log/sandbox/sandbox-mail-mta_-_postfix-2.1.5-r2-5334.log" open_wr: /var/cache/samba/gencache.tdb -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have tried to emerge several times, I have already unmerged ssmtp. I can't reproduce this one. In which part of the installation it fails ? (configuring, compiling, installing, merging...). And please post the contents of: /var/log/sandbox/sandbox-mail-mta_-_postfix-2.1.5-r2-5334.log Also an excerpt of what was going on before the access violation might help. Cheers, Ferdy
It happens during the compilation stage, the only contents in the error log file are also shown in the access violation message: open_wr: /var/cache/samba/gencache.tdb
As far as the excerpt goes I am at work right now I will post when I get home tonight. thanks
It was due to the domainname not setting correctly, when it attempted to gethostname it got an access violation. I have had this problem several times with /etc/conf.d/domainname not setting up correctly.
