LiveCD no longer lists supported kernel and system options upon pressing F2/F3... thus, if one is installing a fresh system that doesn't boot with default set of options there is no way to obtain the supported parameters (without another working computer, which must not be expected). Options should be split between more pages, like in any other distribution. An interactive startup would be nice :)
This was done on purpose. While we can split it across multiple screens on x86 (which is actually what I've already done myself), it cannot be done on all architectures. It was already to the point where they didn't fit on a single screen. It also can only be done if using isolinux, and not with grub, which will likely be what we use for future releases. Basically, this isn't a bug, but instead a request for enhancement, so I'm changing the severity to match. That and I was taking a page from Knoppix and their "cheat codes" text file. The CD is not expected to be self-fulfilling. It is designed to be used along with the Handbook.
Ok, grub supports "less" as far as I know, so Grub is not a showstopper. isolinux should split options to several screens. Boot options for archs will differ? If so, they should be under control of the respective arch livecd maintainers? So let them decide. However, I always found the boot help to be most useful. Most users who will need this are just "average" linux users - mostly using x86 arch. I expect anybody installing sparc64 gentoo machine to be able to reach README in other ways :) Just make 90% of usual users happy :) Handbooks are not always handy...
Since the catalyst 2.0_rc* series is no longer in package.mask, I am marking this one as RESOLVED... Also, there was the 2005.1-r1 release which had the options added back.
