Hi, I have some opinions about "Gentoo Linux 1.4 Installation Instructions" that might be good to be "emerged" ;-) Here they are: 1. Put a copy of the "Installation Instructions" inside the CD-ROM as in the Gentoo Linux 1.2 version; 2. In the Network Testing topic, I guess it could be a good idea to tell the user to ping a host or to get a small file on the Internet to effectively test his internet connection; 3. Put some kind of ChangeLog of all the Documentation area for the user, who are having problems installing Gentoo, get a fast access to the modifications of the documents as it could contain the solution for him problem; 4. XFS and ReiserFS could have a separate and more complete documentation or an URL, just like ext3; 5. In chapter 8, "Obtaining the Desired 'stage-x' Tarball", I recommend the use of wget as lynx, before chroot, use the /tmp dir to store its downloads and the /tmp don't have enough space to store the stage-x tarballs. Or suggest the user to write down the filename of the tarball and then download it trough wget or write a little script to do that, identifying the correct architecture of the user's machine; 6. Write about Lilo configuration as in GRUB because GRUB is not 100% reliable, IMHO. Regards, Ingo -LaSombra- Hoffmann

1. Put a copy of the "Installation Instructions" inside the CD-ROM as in the Gentoo Linux 1.2 version; Done everytime a CD is made. 2. In the Network Testing topic, I guess it could be a good idea to tell the user to ping a host or to get a small file on the Internet to effectively test his internet connection; Done 3. Put some kind of ChangeLog of all the Documentation area for the user, who are having problems installing Gentoo, get a fast access to the modifications of the documents as it could contain the solution for him problem; Not sure what you mean. We have CVS logs for all of this, but they are not user accessible. Why would they need the older doc? 4. XFS and ReiserFS could have a separate and more complete documentation or an URL, just like ext3; I think they are pretty well explained. Maybe a URL is needed, but is more explanation? 5. In chapter 8, "Obtaining the Desired 'stage-x' Tarball", I recommend the use of wget as lynx, before chroot, use the /tmp dir to store its downloads and the /tmp don't have enough space to store the stage-x tarballs. Or suggest the user to write down the filename of the tarball and then download it trough wget or write a little script to do that, identifying the correct architecture of the user's machine; We have both now 6. Write about Lilo configuration as in GRUB because GRUB is not 100% reliable, IMHO. Pending

Not at the moment, but I can study about it and write some info if you want to.
Sounds good, if you want to write it, I can add it in. Thanks again for the help! //ZhEN
