Description Philippe Fremy 2002-11-07 14:19:29 UTC
nano has a big drawback as an editor: you can not edit multiple files with it.
Simple things like opening /etc/make.conf and /etc/make.profile/make.defaults to
compare the flags of USE are not possible. Please include a lightweight _multi
file_ editor: joe, jmacs, minimacs, jed, vi, emacs, whatever!

I would love to see a minimal vi-compatible editor too. Gentoo is a geek
distribution. I think any geek expect an emacs-compatible editor or a
vi-compabible editor.

I thought vi was on the live-cd ?
Comment 2 Philippe Fremy 2002-11-09 12:16:47 UTC
I was installing from another distribution (so not from the live-cd) and more
importantely, in the chrooted stage2 environement. So I had not access to my
other distribution.

I think it is important to have a minimal environment in the stage2, but one
should not make it too minimal. I am sure there are other good small editors
out there.

Indeed, vi is on the livecd. Close this bug as invalid.

vi and nano are on the cd and both can do multifile
